The following is a review of Rooted, Ian Campbell’s album release party and the relaunch of Friends of Historic Memorial Hall as an arts organization. It was written by Barbara Lipstadt and published as a Letter the the Editor in The Deerfield Valley News on 8/21/25.
What a wonderful event last night at Memorial Hall!
It was a beautiful evening, and when I walked in a large crowd was taking advantage of the scrumptious buffet and open bar inside.
Local musician Logan Boyd opened the program by singing some of his own compositions, one of which was especially poignant about hurricane Irene in 2011.
Then Jill Sachs performed her own songs also, with Chris Mays adding melodies between the verses.
When Ian stepped up to the microphone, the crowd went wild!
This was the main event, and the crowd knew it.
What followed were several songs composed in an innovative rock style by this talented singer/songwriter, with four accomplished band members accompanying him.
Thank you to the performers and committee members who made this relaunch of Memorial Hall such a success!
Barbara
