Be a part of what makes it happen
Friends of Historic Memorial Hall runs on community energy. Volunteering is one of the easiest ways to support arts and culture in the Deerfield Valley — and it doesn’t require a huge time commitment.
Whether you’re the “put me to work” type or you’d rather help behind the scenes, there’s a role that fits.

Ways to volunteer
1) Event volunteers (front-of-house)
Perfect if you want to help in short bursts and meet people.
Examples of roles:
- Greeting guests / checking tickets
- Ushering and helping folks find seats
- Concessions / simple hospitality
- Merchandise table support (as needed)
- Set-up and breakdown (chairs, tables, signage)
Typical commitment: 60–120 minutes per event (sometimes longer if you want).
Best for: Friendly people who like being part of the buzz.
2) Production volunteers (sound, lights, and stage support)
If you’re interested in the behind-the-scenes magic, this is a great way to help. You can jump in as an experienced hand, or start with simple tasks and learn as you go.
Examples of roles:
- Soundboard support (mixing help, mic setup, patching, troubleshooting)
- Lighting support (basic lighting cues, setup, and teardown)
- Stage assistance (moving gear, resetting the stage between sets, helping artists load in/out)
- Run-of-show support (keeping things moving smoothly backstage)
Typical commitment: Usually the full event window (setup + show + breakdown).
Great fit for: People who like gear, systems, teamwork, and calm under pressure.
3) Committees (ongoing support)
Committees are where we plan, build partnerships, and keep the organization moving forward. If you’ve got skills — or just interest — we can put them to good use.
Current committee areas may include:
- Development (fundraising, sponsorships, donor stewardship)
- Marketing & Communications (social, email, posters, community outreach)
- Programming & Events (booking ideas, community partnerships, seasonal planning)
- Volunteer Team (recruiting, scheduling, training, volunteer experience)
- Operations / Hospitality (processes that make events smoother)
Typical commitment: 1 meeting/month + light between-meeting tasks (varies).
Best for: People who like teamwork and want to contribute to the long game.
4) Project-based help (jump in when you can)
Not ready for a standing role? No problem. Project volunteers help us tackle specific needs.
Examples:
- Poster distribution around town
- Event photography or short video clips
- Helping with special events (fundraisers, community gatherings, workshops)
- Light admin help (mailings, check-in lists, organizing materials)
- Outreach to partner organizations
Typical commitment: A few hours, once in a while.
Best for: Busy people who still want to contribute.

What volunteers get
Volunteering is work, but it’s also fun—and it’s meaningful.
- You’ll help create experiences people remember
- You’ll meet artists, neighbors, and other community builders
- You’ll be part of strengthening arts & culture in the Valley
Depending on the role and event, volunteers may also receive small perks like early entry or a seat at the event when available.
Not sure where you fit?
That’s normal. Tell us what you’re interested in (or what you’re good at), and we’ll suggest a few options.
